Tarte Tatin was created by accident at the ‘Tatin Hotel’ in Lamotte-Beuvron, some 150 kilometers south of Paris in 1889. The hotel was owned by two sisters: Stéphanie Tatin and Caroline Tatin. One of them cooked more apples than necessary and rather them see them go to waste, she put the pastry on top and baked it. She then flipped it carefully and this is how this special tart came to be.
